Yes, I’m off to Ireland soon. Not 100% sure but I think I’ll be making my way over to Italy to visit my sister for a few days. We’ll see if it’s in the cards. I haven’t been to Italy before so I’d like to add that one to the list.
Any cool places (off the beaten path) to see in Italy? Let me know.
So my travel buddy and I started off on a new adventure this past Monday. As always, we left the United States with our backpacks filled with a couple shirts, pants, underwear and some toiletries (yeah, we pack light). Our first two nights were in Helsingborg, Sweden and let me say this: wow. Helsingborg is one of the most beautiful places I have ever been to. Since it’s one of the oldest cities in Sweden, the architecture looks like it jumped out of an old, broken-down textbook. Plus, it’s really cool because it’s right next to Denmark; Helsingborg is about as far south as we could go in Sweden and we did this so we could easily jump back to Denmark and then make our way down through Germany.
So far on our trip we’ve been staying in hostels-one of our biggest money savers- and that’s been going well for us. There’s a great bar below us so we can have some breakfast and wake up a little without even having to leave our hostel. The bar area is pretty cool, too. We like to get out and meet different people, so we never stay in our hostel for too long, but we do get a student discount for eating/drinking there so we have eaten there a couple times. We have only been here a few days and most of our time is spent walking around, seeing different buildings and popping into different restaurants and bars. It’s amazing the things you can learn from having a beer with the locals in any country.
I think the funniest part of Sweden is the language. J and I both speak some German so the language is similar but also very different. I can pick up on some words here and there but it’s more difficult than I thought it was going to be. Luckily, people here are really nice and willing to help out as long as we make the attempt to throw out a little broken Swedish.
quick trip through the mountains in Germany!
Currently on my way to Europe for a new backpacking trip. First stop: Sweden! Stay tuned for some pretty cool pictures & stories.
